End-Course Assessment Overview:
End-course assessments are administered on the last day of class to students who have achieved a minimum of 80% attendance. For virtual learners, cameras are required throughout the entire assessment.
Students must pass the end-course assessment with a minimum score of 70%. Failure to pass with a minimum score of 70% will result in not passing the class and not being able to continue in the program.
End-Course Assessment Retake Process:
Any student who fails their in-class attempts or who is absent on the last day of class will be required to retake the assessment by no later than the following Wednesday.
Students are permitted a maximum of four total attempts to achieve the required passing score of 70%, including any attempts taken in class. All attempts must be completed no later than the following Wednesday.
- If a student completes two attempts in class on Friday and does not pass, they may take up to two additional attempts outside of class by the Wednesday deadline.
- If a student completes one attempt in class on Friday and does not pass, they may take up to three additional attempts outside of class by the Wednesday deadline.
- If a student is absent on the final day of the course, they will forfeit the number of attempts that would have been available to them during class that day. The only exception to this policy is for absences approved due to mitigating circumstances.
All retake attempts must be proctored by an Instructor or a member of the Student Support team. Any unproctored assessment attempt will be considered invalid.
While ACI Learning will communicate with all students who need to schedule an end-course retake, it is the student’s responsibility to schedule and complete the retake appointment by the designated deadline. Failure to complete this process will result in non-compliant students being dropped from their program at ACI Learning.
End-Course Assessment Retake Appointment:
Students who do not pass the end-course assessment on the last day of the course will be required to complete a retake outside of scheduled class time to avoid disrupting attendance in their subsequent course. All retake attempts must be proctored by an Instructor or a member of the Student Support team. Any unproctored assessment attempt will be considered invalid.
Students are expected to adequately prepare for the end-course assessment retake by reviewing course materials and engaging in independent study prior to their next attempt in order to give themselves the best possible opportunity to pass.
While not required, scheduling a review session with an Instructor prior to attempting the retake is strongly recommended. Students may use this time to review challenging topics, ask questions, and clarify concepts before attempting another assessment attempt.
Retakes may be completed during Open Mentor Session hours or during a scheduled appointment. Students who need assistance with scheduling an appointment should contact the Student Support team via chat or at student.support@acilearning.com.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: It’s the last day of class. Why didn’t my end-course assessment appear?
A: As a reminder, end-course assessments are administered on the last day of class to students who have achieved a minimum of 80% attendance. If the end-course shell did not populate, it is likely that this prerequisite was not achieved.
If you believe there may be a discrepancy with your attendance, please notify your Instructor and the Support team as soon as possible. Support can be contacted via the chat bubble in the Learning Portal.
Q: I passed my end-course assessment on the last day of class. Do I need to meet with an Instructor/Support?
A: No. Students who pass their end-course assessment on the last day of class are not required to meet with an Instructor/Support. Instructor support is available for students who need additional review or guidance, but it is not required.
Q: If I was absent on the last day of class, does that mean I get four attempts to complete the end-course assessment?
A: No. Students who are absent on the last day of class forfeit their in-class attempts. Therefore, if you are absent on the final day, you forfeit the number of attempts you would have had during class that day. The only exception to this rule is if the absence is approved due to mitigating circumstances.
Q: I was present for the last day of class but opted to not take the end-course assessment. Does this mean I get four attempts to complete the end-course assessment?
A: No. Students who choose not to complete the end-course assessment on the last day of class forfeit their in-class attempts. Therefore, students will forfeit the number of attempts they would have had during class and will only be eligible for the remaining attempts before the Wednesday deadline.
Q: Can I take a retake without supervision?
A: No. All retake attempts must be proctored by an Instructor or a member of the Student Support team. Any unproctored assessment attempt will be considered invalid.
Q: How do I schedule a retake appointment?
A: ACI Learning will communicate with students who need a retake, but it is the student’s responsibility to schedule and complete the retake by the deadline.
Retakes may be completed:
- During Open Mentor Session hours
- During a scheduled appointment with an Instructor or Support team member
For scheduling assistance, contact Student Support via chat or email at student.support@acilearning.com.
Q: How should I prepare for the retake?
A: Students are expected to study and review course materials independently prior to attempting another assessment. This preparation helps ensure students are making the best possible effort to successfully pass the assessment.
While not required, a review session with an Instructor is strongly recommended and can be helpful for addressing specific questions or challenging topics before attempting the retake.
Q: What happens if I miss the retake deadline?
A: Failure to complete the retake process by the designated deadline may result in the student being dropped from the program at ACI Learning.
Q: I am not seeing any available meeting times when I click on the scheduling link, but still need to complete this requirement before the Wednesday deadline. What should I do?
A: End-course assessment retake meetings are available on a first-come, first-served basis. As such, waiting until the Wednesday deadline can create issues with scheduling. We encourage all students to schedule via the scheduling page as soon as possible to avoid availability issues.
In instances where no individual appointment slots are available, students in need of an end-course retake will be routed to attend Open Mentoring Session. Below is a table that breaks down the weekly schedule for Open Mentoring Sessions. As a reminder, these sessions do not require an upfront appointment and can be joined at any point during the session availability.
Please keep in mind that joining a session late may result in support not being able to be fully rendered. As a best practice, we recommend that students join these sessions with at least 120 minutes to spare. This is especially important when completing end-course retake, as these meetings require a minimum of 90 minutes to complete.
Q: I have circumstances that prevent me from completing the end-course assessment retake by the Wednesday deadline. What should I do?
A: On a case-by-case basis, extensions may be granted for students with mitigating circumstances to complete the end-course assessment retake. These extension approvals are based on the nature of the circumstances and require review and determination from the academic progress team.
Students who are aware that they may be unable to complete the retake by the Wednesday deadline should notify ACI Learning Support as soon as possible. Support can be contacted via the chat bubble in the Learning Portal or via email at student.support@acilearning.com.
Failure to notify the team of scheduling conflicts in a timely manner may result in extensions not being approved.
Q: I failed both in-class attempts and did not pass when I met with an Instructor/Mentor. What happens now?
A: In instances where students are not successful in passing the end-course assessment, ACI Learning will move forward with program removal due to failure to achieve academic standards.
This does not mean that a student’s academic journey with ACI Learning must end. Students may evaluate whether they would like to re-enter their program. Depending on the funding source, alternate funding may need to be obtained or additional funding approvals may need to be granted prior to being rescheduled for classes. Funding approval is not guaranteed.
Q: Will I still keep my exam voucher if I did not pass the End-Course Assessment?
A: Exam voucher eligibility is contingent upon successful course completion. If the End-Course Assessment is not passed, the course will be considered incomplete and the exam voucher will not be retained.
If you have questions regarding this process, please contact Student Support via chat or email at student.support@acilearning.com.
